“Finding Light in the Darkness”

Derick and Petra are Catholic immigrants from India. Theirs is a journey wrapped in darkness. Derick didn’t know it at the time, but he was born with a rare genetic condition that limited his ability to see. As he grew older, the condition worsened to the point that be became legally blind.

Married to his first wife at the time, Derick said that diagnosis apparently became too much for her to deal with. One day she simply “walked out” and left him and their two children. Devastated by the events of the moment, Derick turned to his faith to deal with the clouds of darkness that hovered over his life.

Then he met Petra and together they began to re-build his life and their life together. With the help of a holy priest, Derick had his first marriage annulled. (He, by the way, is a Deacon serving in the Archdiocese of Houston.) Theirs is a story of faith and trust that God provides a shining light even in the darkest of times.
